U.S. Senate Candidate Angie Nixon Demands Sen. Ashley Moody Fight to Pass S. 4814 to Protect Florida’s Haitian Community

MIAMI, FL – As hundreds of thousands of Haitian immigrants in Florida now face the terrifying threat of dangerous deportation after the sudden Trump Administration termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) this summer, U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon released the following statement demanding Florida’s senators immediately move Senate Bill 4814 through the U.S. Senate to restore TPS to Haitians who need it.

“The humanitarian crisis in Haiti demands moral leadership and basic compassion, not political games. Florida is home to the largest Haitian community in the nation. These are our neighbors, our healthcare workers, our small business owners, and the essential workers who help keep our state running. They fled horrific violence and political instability to build lives here. Forcing hundreds of thousands of people back into life-threatening conditions is deeply cruel, immoral, and economically reckless for Florida.

“Rick Scott and Ashley Moody have done nothing to protect these valued residents of our state. I’m demanding they use whatever influence they claim to have in Washington to push the Senate to pass S. 4814, which would immediately reinstate TPS for Haitians until 2029. And let me be very clear: If they fail to do their job and represent all Floridians yet again, I will fight to pass this legislation on day one of my term in the United State Senate.

“Instead of sending taxpayer dollars to tear families apart and terrorize our neighborhoods, we should be protecting the hardworking people who help power this state.”
